Christian Growth

CHRISTIANS MUST GROW

ROM 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
BEING A CHRISTIAN IS ONGOING PROCESS. TO RENEW MEANS TO MAKE VALID AGAIN. GROWTH IS THE SAME WAY. WE WANT TO GROW TO A STATE OF MATURITY. WE SHOULD WANT TO GROW TO A SPIRITUAL MATURITY.
COL 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
WE RENEW OURSELVES THROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CREATOR. IN GROWTH WE RENEW OURSELVES WITH FOOD. IN SPIRITUAL GROWTH, WE DO IT WITH GOD`S WORD.
1TH 1:8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia–your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
THESE PEOPLE WERE OBVIOUSLY GROWING. NEWS OF THE CHANGE IN THEIR LIVES HAD SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE LAND. WHAT WAS BEING HEARD EVERYWHERE? THEIR FAITH IN GOD.
ROM 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE GROWN SPIRITUALLY TO THE POINT THAT PEOPLE KNOW YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN WITHOUT HAVING TO MAKE A SPECIAL POINT OF TELLING THEM?
2CO 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you–unless, of course, you fail the test?
HOW CAN WE TELL IF WE ARE GROWING AS A CHRISTIAN? WE HAVE TO START LOOKING AT OURSELVES. WE CAN LOOK IN A MIRROR AND TELL IF WE HAVE GROWN PHYSICALLY. HAVE WE FAILED THE TEST? IT IS POSSIBLE TO FAIL THE TEST.
1PE 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
HAVE YOU GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT IS TALKED ABOUT IN THIS VERSE? THE KEY TO BEING A CHRISTIAN IS LETTING GOD BE IN CHARGE OF OUR LIVES. WE ARE NOT ONLY TOLD THAT WE ARE TO ANSWER, BUT ALSO HOW TO ANSWER. WE HAVE TO SHOW CONCERN FOR OTHER PEOPLE.
2PE 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 2PE 1:6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 2PE 1:7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
THESE ARE BUILDING BLOCKS OR GROWTH STEPS, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM. WHERE DOES YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE FIT IN. NOTICE THE LOGICAL STEPS THAT THESE THINGS ARE MENTIONED IN. IT ALL BEGINS WITH FAITH. WE CAN THINK BACK TO THINGS WE FIRST ACCOMPLISHED AS CHILDREN. WE KNOW THAT PHYSICAL GROWTH STARTS OUT LEARNING THE SMALL THINGS. YOU DON’T TEACH A CHILD CALCULUS IN THE FIRST GRADE. IF WE FEEL WE ARE NOT GROWING AS A CHRISTIAN, DO WE FEEL THAT GOD`S WORD IS TOO COMPLICATED. MAYBE WE NEED TO GET BACK TO THE BASICS. THERE IS THE STORY OF THE MAN WHO COMPLAINED THAT HIS BOSS KEPT TELLING HIM TO DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT TURNED OUT THAT HE NEVER DID WHAT HE WAS TOLD. IF WE DON’T DO SOMETHING FOR A WHILE WE FORGET. WE DON’T SAY I’VE EATEN ENOUGH IN MY LIFE AND QUIT FROM THAT POINT ON.
HOW TO TELL WHEN YOU ARE GROWING
1. DO YOU STUDY GOD’S WORD ON YOUR OWN?
2. DO YOU NOT GET ANNOYED BY LITTLE THINGS?
3. DOES HELPING OTHER PEOPLE WITH TROUBLES HELP YOU?
4. DO MATERIAL THINGS MEAN LESS AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD MEAN MORE?
5. DO YOU LOOK ON EACH DAY AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE GOD?
6. DO YOU LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN OTHERS AND THE FAULTS IN YOURSELF?
7. DO YOU WANT TO PLEASE GOD MORE THAN OTHERS?
8. DO YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON ANYTHING THAT WILL HINDER YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
9. DO YOU ENJOY BEING WITH CHRISTIANS MORE THAN NON-CHRISTIANS?
10. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL BE VICTORIOUS IN THE END?
11. DO YOU SAY “THY WILL BE DONE” NO MATTER WHAT THE TASK?
