Garden Update – Tomato Season is here

Tomatoes on the Stove

Time to start catching up on my garden posts.  After finally getting some rain our garden is doing very well now for crops that are still in season.  As the picture indicates we are now in tomato canning mode.  We lost several tomatoes to start with due to blossom rot but they appear to be growing out of it.  The tomatoes in the picture are being cooked in order to prepare canned tomato juice.  So far we have canned 8 quarts of spaghetti sauce, 21  quarts of tomatoes, and 19 1/2 quarts of tomato juice.  We are looking to can a few pints of salsa as the tomatoes are still bearing. For those of you that think this is a lot my cousins have canned 132 quarts of tomatoes, so we are still a distant second.  I will add a post in a few days with mom’s procedure and recipes for canning.  Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

  1. We have been doing a lot of canning here, as well. Right now, we’re having a green bean boom! I have canned a lot, and was thinking of doing dilly beans. Have you ever done those?

  2. Gary says:

I have heard of Dilly beans but never done them. Today was salsa day!
